As already pointed out, the roll corbels of Mozarabic or Hispano-Visigothic tradition, such as those to be seen on emblematic buildings like San Miguel de Celanova in Orense, may be a nod to the past (both in their purer form, seen below, and in more elaborated forms where they act as a base for another sculpture).

Other motifs are also to be found repeated on several corbels. One of these is a kind of fleshy leaf motif that on several of the corbels looks like a tongue, which sometimes twists and rolls up on itself or over a round object.

Sometimes these round objects, balls or floral buttons perhaps, take over and stand out from the rest of the corbel.

Also common are intertwined ribbon motifs, with no beginning and no end; this motif may also be a religious symbol.
