Apart from the corbels carved with different motifs and figures which we have seen, the cathedral also has corbels with very little or no decoration or carving, see examples below.

One motif which is repeated on some of the corbels is a type of little ‘barrel’ which decorates the upper end of the corbel

 

The monkey, of course, is another of the recurring figures to be found on corbels. This animal can be found in many places along the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, the Way of Saint James. It is a figure which generally represents the vices and the dehumanization of sinners. Sometimes the animal is depicted chained, thus symbolizing our victory over this negative tendency.
